The Opportunity: Project Engineer


PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Project Engineer uses multidiscipline electromechanical expertise and drives innovation, assesses, scopes & meets project goals, and supports business growth. This role crosses traditional engineering boundaries, utilizing deep technical knowledge to act as a strategic bridge between our engineering teams and a diverse, cross-industry client base on current projects and new opportunities.

This role is ideal for an engineer who has a strong understanding and technical basis for machine builds, and excels at project engineering. You must recognize the challenges and have experience with system-level design and general diagnostics, while also possessing the sharp business acumen and ability to scope & guide NPI projects, present cutting-edge technical solutions, and unlock new market opportunities.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • New Product Introduction (NPI) Project Support: Understand project budgets, milestones, and quality requirements, while managing customers expectations and alignment with the project scope.
  • Engage in complex, electromechanical engineering projects from initial concept through detailed design, assembly prints, schematics, P&IDs, Bill of Materials, analysis/simulation, FMEA, prototyping and multi-industry compliance.
  • Partner with clients across diverse sectors, including alternative energy, medical, industrial, aerospace, robotics, and automated manufacturing, to solve their toughest technical bottlenecks with a focus on critical parameters.
  • Act as the primary technical liaison internally and externally between engineering, R&D, manufacturing, test, and sales to ensure client specifications are technically viable and commercially scalable.
  • Actively involved in troubleshooting, optimizing, and commissioning prototypes, first-time builds, machinery, automated equipment, and integrated smart hardware, both in-house and occasionally at client facilities.
  • Collaborate with the Business Development team reviewing new opportunities while developing high-impact technical presentations, demonstrating PEKO capabilities, and author rigorous technical proposals in response to customer RFPs for high-value projects and programs.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related advanced technical discipline
  • 3 years of hands-on experience working with integrated, intelligent electromechanical systems and industrial equipment
  • Direct experience designing, building, programming, or maintaining automated machinery, robotic cells, CNC equipment, or specialized test rigs.
  • Proficiency in Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook) and CAD (Solidworks, CREO, Inventor, Autodesk) with exposure to simulation tools (ANSYS, MATLAB/Simulink) for thermal, fluid, or electromagnetic analysis
  • Familiarity with precision motion control, high-performance servo/stepper motors, microcontrollers, or PLCS (Siemens, Rockwell, Beckhoff), as well as sensing/safety components
  • Strong communication skills across all stakeholder groups, technically and commercially


Preferred Qualifications:
  • 5+ years hands-on experience with integrated, intelligent electromechanical systems and industrial equipment
  • Recognize and manage Key Metrics for projects, including cost, quality and delivery, as well as project risks and mitigations.  Assessment and analysis for targets and actuals.
  • Previous experience on the commercial side of engineering, including value-engineering, client relationship management, project proposal development, and market expansion
  • Technical writing skills a plus

A reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this position is $75,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year. The wage range for this role considers a wide range of factors when making compensation decisions including skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational requirements.
